Do you want to help people learn English? Get involved with Talk English and host a Talk English Course in your centre

27 Jun 2014 - 11:14 by michelle.foster

Manchester City Council are looking for organisations that want to get involved in the Talk English project to host informal beginner English courses for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) from October 2014 – June 2015. Manchester City Council will support your organisation to deliver the Talk English Courses which will be taught by a pair of volunteers trained and supported through the project.

As a host organisation on this project, you would be expected to:
• provide a suitable classroom space for the delivery of a weekly ESOL class from October 2014 – June 2015
• ideally provide volunteer ESOL teachers with access to computers, printers and/or a photocopier and secure storage for teaching resources, materials and paperwork
• ensure there is a responsible person on site during class times who can support volunteers in the event of any unexpected problems or emergencies

If required, Manchester City Council will provide some reimbursement to your organisation towards costs incurred for hosting a class. They also have limited funds available for organisations that are already set up to provide on-site crèche for learners who need childcare.

Manchester City Council will provide training and support for volunteer ESOL teachers, as well as the resources and learning materials needed to deliver beginner English classes. You can nominate existing staff or volunteers from your organisation to teach the course or Manchester City Council can place volunteers with you.

If your organisation would like to host a Talk English Course, complete the expression, here: www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/118987JVOCA by Friday 11 July 2014.
