Enhancing social emotional skills provision within Education and Youth Development

3 Mar 2017 - 10:13 by michelle.foster

In 2015, UK Government backed research was published which clearly indicated a need for better availability of provision in building social emotional skills (SES), which directly relate to how adults and young people live healthier, happier and more enjoyable lives. Gamechanger

The #gamechanger programme is addressing a recognised national need, to establish a solid capability for social emotional skills provision within the youth and education sectors. This programme deploys a regulated qualification in Social Emotional Development Practice to upskill professionals and volunteers, provides a structured national framework to support quality SES provision, and continually measures evolving SES within young people (age 13 years and upwards).

This is a dedicated process for the UK’s education and youth sectors to establish a qualified capability in SES provision for their young people – within a regulated learning and development process. It then supports teams through Continuous Professional Development, to refine and improve SES provision on the ground.

Embedding a New Specialism
Objective: Establish a UK network of qualified specialists within existing educational and youth development teams.
By establishing a regulated professional qualification, with ongoing Continuous Professional Development support, #gamechanger enables educators and youth developers to progressively guide children and young people to better navigate the emotions which impact upon how well they manage themselves, and enable them to adapt to the demands of life through the management of a positive morale, engagement, and commitment.

Any educational or youth development focused team can join the #gamechanger programme in the UK and create a specialist capability in SES provision. You may be eligible for funding.

The aim of the programme by December 2018 is to establish 1,500 SEDS qualified professionals and volunteers within the UK’s Education and Youth Development communities.

Through the creation of collaborative partnerships with, and social investment into, schools, not-for-profit teams and community centres, this community of SEDS professionals will be able to influence how young people engage with society, and enhance the future development of key skills which will underpin long-term cohesion, engagement and wellbeing.
