12 Feb 2016 - 11:01 by michelle.foster

Wellington College working with Future Foundations is seeking community and voluntary sector organisations based in Manchester and Birmingham to set a short project for a team of 10 students to undertake on Tuesday 21 June 2016.

This project will feature as part of a residential programme for Year 9 (13-14 year old) students from Wellington College. The three day programme will also feature guest speakers and a City Challenge as young people work in teams to complete social action themed tasks around the city centre.

The Junior Social Apprentice (JSA) aims to develop young people’s understanding of voluntary and community organisations and how they can make a contribution to society. The programme has been established by Wellington College and it has a reputation for making a real and positive contribution to community organisations with a range of successful projects established and significant fundraising secured.

In 2016 Wellington College is bringing Junior Social Apprentice to Manchester and Birmingham. Between Monday 20 and Wednesday 22 June approximately 95 students will visit the city for a three day, two night residential challenge which will see them take on a range of challenges.

Wellington College is working with Future Foundations to identify community partners and suitable projects. Selected community partners will be offered the opportunity of a group of 12 motivated young people who on Tuesday 21 June will carry out a 4-5 hour project. These students will take on a challenge set by your organisation with planning support from Future Foundations and direct supervision from their teachers.

Wellington College want their students to undertake a short social action project that adds value to your organisation, contributes to positive social change, is sustainable and can be considered practical action in the service of others.

The activity should be possible to complete in 4-5 hours by a team of 10 - 12 students.

Wellington College are looking for projects that have a local focus and are likely to align with one or more of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
