Vera Martins

21 Sep 2015 - 14:46 by Mike Wild

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Vera Martins, former Chief Executive at 42nd Street, sadly died on Sunday 13th September 2015.

Vera was much loved and respected by colleagues, friends and family and made a huge difference to the lives of thousands of young people in her 11 years as Chief Executive at 42nd Street.

Simone Spray, who succeeded Vera as Chief Executive at 42nd Street said "In time, we will hold a memorial for Vera that celebrates all that she achieved and what she meant to everyone, but in the meantime let’s remember the passion, determination and humour that will always be Vera’s legacy and use that to support each other through this incredibly sad time."

Vera was for a time a Trustee of Macc. Mike Wild, Chief Exec at Macc said "Vera was the kind of person we need more of. She showed fantastic leadership at 42nd Street taking difficult and bold decisions which were always, always, always driven by what would get the best results for the young people they support. There are a lot of people out in Manchester and beyond who have been helped by the work Vera led. We were lucky enough to have her on our Board of Trustees at Macc for a time. I gained a lot from her support, inspiring me to be smarter and braver."

Vera’s funeral will take place on Friday 2nd October at 1pm at Our Lady’s RC Church, Raby Street, Moss Side, Manchester M16 7JQ and anyone who wishes to attend will be most welcome.
