Spirit of Manchester Story Week 2020 - Carers Manchester is here…

23 Sep 2020 - 10:16 by helen.walker

A new information and advice service is available for carers in the city of Manchester. Carers Manchester Contact Point was started during the Covid-19 period and forms part of the new Carers Pathway in Manchester, which is a partnership of statutory and voluntary organisations working together to improve services for Manchester’s 62,000 unwaged carers. Carers Manchester Contact Point is delivered by Gaddum working with Manchester Carers Forum, LMCP and Wai Yin.

Trained advice workers from all four organisations are able to answer queries or signpost carers to the relevant service with just a phone call, email or click of the mouse. The team includes advice workers that are fluent in speaking Urdu and Chinese.

Allison recently joined our Contact Point team as an Advice Worker. She has worked as an adviser for many years within a number of organisations including those supporting unpaid carers, vulnerable workers, homeless people, and survivors of domestic abuse. She said, "When carers contact the Carers Manchester Contact Point, it may be the first time they’ve asked anyone for help. Some callers simply want an answer to a specific question but for many, they may be at a point of crisis and need emotional and practical support on complex matters and issues affecting carers such as benefits and money issues, isolation, carers assessments, worries about health and accessing services.

We work with carers looking at their individual needs and strengths to find the right support for them. We’ve had such positive feedback about the service so far, and many carers are signing up for up for regular newsletters, training and support from carers organisations across Manchester. It’s great to see the positive impact our service has on carers lives”.

Carers can contact the Contact Point on 0161 543 8000 (Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm), email [email protected] or fill in their enquiry form at www.carersmanchester.org.uk. They look forward to hearing from you.
