Count Down To Adult Learners’ Week in Manchester

Adult Learners’ Week is the UK’s largest annual festival of learning; inspiring thousands of people each year to discover how learning can change their lives.

This year, Adult Learners' Week will run from Saturday 12 – Friday 18 May.

During this week-long festival, learning events take place in libraries, cafes, museums, colleges and workplaces across Manchester, and throughout the UK.

Charity Commission Charity Review Project

Following the Charity Commission’s strategic review in 2011, the regulator believes that the charitable sector in England and Wales has a vital role in strengthening its own governance and exchanging knowledge and understanding via peer learning.

The Commission believes that good governance cannot be achieved through ticking boxes on a form; it has to be part of the culture of the sector and embedded within the organisation.

The Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme Consultation

The Chancellor announced at Budget 2011 that a new Gift Aid Small
Donations Scheme (GASDS) would be introduced in 2013. Qualifying charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) will be able to claim a top-up payment equivalent to Gift Aid on small cash donations.

It is intended that the new scheme will be introduced for donations made from 6 April 2013, and will allow charities to claim a top-up equivalent to Gift Aid on up to £5,000 of small donations of money made without a Gift Aid declaration.

Homelessness Transition Fund

The £20m Homelessness Transition Fund was launched to help prevent and tackle rough sleeping in England. The fund is for non-profit organisations and is provided by DCLG (administered by Homeless Link). The objectives are to:
• help deliver an end to rough sleeping by rolling out the No-Second Night Out principles and othe innovations
• support a smooth transition for existing services to sustainable funding arrangements
