Description of opportunity:

The Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR) provides social, welfare and care services to Jewish victims of Nazi oppression living in Great Britain.

Founded in 1941 by Jewish refugees from central Europe, the AJR has extensive experience attending to the needs of Holocaust refugees and survivors who settled in Britain.

About 70,000 refugees – including approximately 10,000 children on the Kindertransport – arrived in Great Britain from Nazi-occupied Europe in the late 1930s. They were joined at the end of the Second World War by survivors of the ghettos and concentration camps.

Volunteer Opportunity

We are currently in need of volunteer befrienders in Manchester to visit elderly Holocaust Survivors/Refugees suffering with memory loss in order to stimulate and enhance their lives. They may be lonely and isolated and would greatly benefit from a befriender. If you are calm, friendly, intuitive can spare an hour a week you could share and enjoy with someone who may have similar interests why not apply for this opportunity?

Volunteers will be matched with a client where they will spend an hour each week visiting them. They will take part in an activity together such as listen to music, chat or play a game such as chess.
