Description of opportunity:

The Role

Gorton Visual Arts has been creating artwork in and around Gorton and Manchester since 2006. The group is made up of 18 local residents and Lead Artist Ian McKay.

By involving elderly residents, vulnerable adults and residents with learning difficulties, new skills are learnt and shared in a safe studio environment. Gorton visual arts actively promote social cohesion and inclusion through the arts. They have worked on some fantastic projects including the Belle Vue Mosaic at Gorton Market, Manchester’s Library Theatre and more recently on the Whit Walks Project with Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry.

Gorton Visual Arts require volunteers to assist with the following duties:

  • Supporting the artists
  • Helping to set up the materials and studio
  • Offering help to people with learning difficulties
  • Administration tasks
  • Assisting with funding applications
  • Assisting with social media to promote activities
  • Planning and setting up crowd funding events

You will receive full training for this role.

Commitment

The group meet on Mondays 1-3pm – this may increase to more days in the future as and when new projects are launched.

We ask for a minimum commitment of 4 months.
