Description of opportunity:

 We are a volunteer-led organisation which organises workshops for anyone who wants to learn how to handle conflict and build better relationships, particularly people with experience of domestic abuse, mental health issues, or the criminal justice system. Our organisation originated in a New York prison in 1975 and has since spread to over 100 countries around the world. Our aim for this role is to promote our core principles, increase awareness and the overall number of people attending workshops.

What’s involved (depending on your interests/skills/availability):

  • Staffing stalls +/ giving talks at community events
  • Distributing leaflets and posters
  • Updating social media (eg facebook and twitter)
  • Creating digital publicity +/ writing web content
  • Generating coverage in the local press
  • Writing newsletter articles
  • Contacting potential partner organisations
  • You will need to be available on Mondays or Wednesdays for 2-3 hours during office hours

Support and training:

  • Induction session
  • Support from the Regional Coordinator.
  • Socials and peer support sessions with other volunteers
  • Out of pocket expenses in line with the AVP expenses policy
  • Training subsidy on AVP workshops
  • Annual national gathering with AVP volunteers from across the UK

 

Skills / Qualifications:

To be able to use micro-soft word programmes,maintain records,.
To have knowledge of communication and presentation resources so as able to present information effectively.
To be familiar with and able to use a range of different communication mediums.
To have good face-to-face communication skills in one-to-one and group meetings.
