Description of the role

The Cafe at Northmoor Community Associations (NCA) is open to the public every Wednesday from 12pm to 2pm. As a volunteer cook you would be responsible for cooking a nutritious meal from a recipe or baking a cake from a recipe. We value your experience as a cook or baker so if you have your own recipes you would like to cook then this is encouraged. It is a great chance for volunteers to gain valuable work experience, get creative in the kitchen and give back to the community.
Before starting as a volunteer cook you will be expected to complete a level 2 food hygiene course on the computer which we will provide free of charge at the centre.
Volunteers are required to have a full induction and will be paid out-of-pocket expenses such as bus fare.

Main Tasks

  • Deciding on a recipe each week and compiling a shopping list ensuring sufficient ingredients are bought to serve over 30 people. The ingredients will be bought by the community centre.
  • To volunteer from 09:30am to 2pm and be responsible for cooking either a meat or vegetarian option for up to 30 people.
  • General duties as needed eg washing up, cleaning, filling in the daily check lists, setting up, stock check

  • Experience working within a diverse community.
  • Opportunities for training and development such as food hygiene level 1+2 and nutrition.
  • Improved job prospects and employability prospects.
  • A rewarding sense of achievement in helping sustain the Café at Northmoor and provide affordable and healthy food for the community.
