The Blair Project is delivering a programme called Planet Possibility, which aims to increase participation in Physics in young people - particularly young people from backgrounds which are traditionally under-represented in this field, such as young people from BAME Backgrounds, young women, young people that identify as LGBTQ+, and young people who are neurodiverse.
We require volunteers to help out with the delivering of our STEM truck activity days across schools and youth organisations across Manchester. Our STEM truck is a van we converted into a mobile workshop that deliveries engaging and entertaining activities that make Physics accessible and relatable for young people. You will help set up and help out with interactive activities, including connecting a basic electrical circuit, constructing a wind tunnel and running a science quiz.
The visits are either to schools, youth groups or events and last for a minimum of 4 hours at a time. They can take place any day during the week, and in the evening as well. With schools and youth groups it will most likely be a closed acitvity session to a limited amount of people, however if we attend events it will open sessions for the general public. Travel expenses and food and drink will be paid for. There will be a full induction process and a team briefing before every event.
This a great opportunity to help us grow the army of innovators, engineers and entrepreneurs needed to fight climate change by engaging with marginalised youth.
