Join the Somme 100 Pals – call for volunteers

400 volunteers are needed to take part in a unique performance to commemorate the lives of those who served in or were affected by the Battle of the Somme 100 years ago. Are you enthusiastic aged 18 or over, male or female, who’ll relish the opportunity to become involved in a truly oneof-a-kind, historic event? Volunteers will be part of a short movement-based dance piece – though no previous experience is required.

St Ann's Hospice launches Forget-Me-Not Appeal

Hundreds of people from across Greater Manchester will be remembering their loved ones as part of a very special appeal this Spring, in support of local charity St Ann’s Hospice.

The Forget-Me-Not appeal gives people the chance to receive a special wooden keepsake and, if they wish, to attend a service to remember friends or family members they can no longer be with, whilst making a donation to St Ann’s.

Voluntary Youth Manchester Survey 2016 - Listening and Learning

Each year Voluntary Youth Manchester (VYM) evaluates the work they do and the activities, resources and services they offer, and this year VYM want to get your feedback though an online survey.

Jiaojiao Mo, a postgraduate student undertaking a module in Intercultural Engagement at Manchester University, is assisting in putting this survey together. Her perspective from outside of the sector, indeed outside the country, has given invaluable objectivity.

Fostering Fortnight - 16-29 May 2016

Each year the Fostering Network supports fostering agencies in recruiting the additional foster carers that are required for children in public care.

Every 20 minutes across the UK a child comes into care in need of a fostering family. This equates to 1,008 children during the two weeks of Fostering Fortnight.

Let's talk about the EU Referendum....

Do you realise that the result of the EU Referendum will be announced in Manchester? Must admit, that one had passed me by in the midst of a lot of noise which is supposedly the national debate. Campaigning has only just officially started but of course it’s been going on for months if not years already. There’s a lot of media coverage about the political positioning and opinions being hurled back and forth in speeches. There are fairly regular “sector” positions reported in the media too on both sides – particularly the voice of business leaders.

Almanac 2016: The latest data on the voluntary sector

NCVO has launched the 15th edition of the UK Civil Society Almanac, once again providing a comprehensive overview of facts and figures related to the voluntary sector.

NCVO principally use charities’ accounts to estimate the sector’s finances, as well as survey data to understand rates of volunteering and the sector’s workforce.

The Hilden Charitable Fund - Summer Play Schemes

The Hilden Charitable Fund has allocated a small budget to help community groups run summer play schemes for disadvantaged communities. Some priority will be given to projects which show they are inclusive of children from refugee families, and show BME involvement.

The Trustees are looking to fund:
• Projects for children aged 5 to 18 years
• Locally based schemes lasting from 2 to 6 weeks
