BBC launches volunteering initiative encouraging people to Do Something Great

This year the BBC will be encouraging audiences to Do Something Great and discover their ‘inner volunteer’.

With a wealth of inspiring and heart-warming programmes across TV and radio, and a bespoke online quiz to help people discover their perfect volunteering match, the BBC will be putting people and charities in touch, to help each other.

Sunday Assembly in Manchester

"The Sunday Assembly was started by Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans, two comedians who were on the way to a gig in Bath when they discovered they both wanted to do something that was like church but totally secular and inclusive of all - no matter what they believed.

The first ever Sunday Assembly meeting took place on 6 January 2013 at The Nave in Islington. Almost 200 people turned up at the first meeting, 300 at the second and soon people all over the world asked to start one.

The Care Leavers Association are searching for new premises can you help?

The Care Leavers Association is a charity working with young people and adults who were in care as children. Their current office space is being redeveloped and they need to find alternative space. The Care Leavers Association are looking for something between 700 and 1000 sq foot in Manchester city centre and are flexible in terms of layout. Wythenshawe Games 2016

VSG Installations a voluntary sector supplier are looking for an office/storage space to rent in the central/north Manchester area within a voluntary sector organisation, with easy links to motorways across the north west. Office space for up to six desks, with space around the room to have large boards on the walls for training purposes. Storage area. Ideally parking spaces for 2 – 4 vehicles.

Coming Up in 2016...

I don’t think any of us is expecting life to get any easier in 2016! There are many so forces acting upon us as a sector at the moment which can make it feel like our agenda is being reduced to a fight for survival – and yet there are opportunities ahead. The difficulty will be in getting ourselves organised as a sector to be able to take them up. We need to increase collaboration and that takes an investment of time, energy and creativity which are rare commodities when you’re working flat out simply to keep the doors open. Here are some thoughts on what lies ahead in 2016…

I'm being a bit cheeky calling this one a blog as 99.99% of this page is not by me at all. However, this is a good place to share it.

Below is a talk given by an American activist and fundraiser called Dan Pallotta. He brilliantly sums up some of the attitudes which distort the way the charity sector functions. I heartily agree with a lot of what he says - it's well worth watching. 

Community Christmas Dinner

Natalie Lek, a full time student at Salford University studying law, is organising two sit down meals in the community for the elderly and vulnerable one is in Cheadle Hulme for 20 people on the 14 December at 5.30pm and the other meal is at the Alliance Inn in Harpurhey at 12.30pm, both meals are completely free and transport can be provided if required.
