Edge Fund to support radical social change

The Edge Fund was initiated by a small group of philanthropists and activists in early 2012 who wanted to explore how funds could be distributed in a way that both devolves the power of donors and creates real and systemic social change.

The Edge Fund seeks to support communities, campaign groups and activists struggling for social, economic and environmental justice, especially those who are:
1. Working for systemic change – those who seek to dismantle and replace the structures and processes that create oppression, inequality and environmental destruction;

US Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter opens for UK projects

Kickstarter, the US crowdfunding platform for creative projects, has opened for UK projects. Project details can be entered from today, but the fundraising won't begin until 31 October.

In the USA Kickstarter has generated over $350 million from more than 2.5 million people for 30,000 projects since it launched in April 2009.

BBC Children in Need are making changes to their grant making, making their application process more accessible.

To do this, their 15 October 2012 for their Small and Main Grant Programmes deadline will be the last one until Spring 2013.

Please note Positive Destinations and Fun and Friendship are still running but will not be open to new applications.

Eastlands Homes' Community Grant

Funding is available to support projects and activities operating in east and south-east Manchester. Applications are encouraged from all of Eastlands Homes' areas - Openshaw, Beswick, Clayton, Miles Platting, Ardwick, Levenshulme, Longsight, Rusholme and Gorton - but must benefit the local community in order to be considered.

Eastlands Homes is a not-for-profit organisation set up in 2003 that has grown to around 8,000 properties, largely due to two stock transfers from Manchester City Council.

Community Rights Grant Programmes

Over £10m available to community groups looking to take over local services using the new rights
Community groups can apply for funding to help them use the new Community Right to Challenge in the Localism Act. The Right came into force on 27 June and will empower local community organisations to take over a local service that they can run more effectively.

The £10m three year Investment and Contract Readiness Fund on behalf of the Office for Civil society is now open.

The Fund will support social ventures to build their capacity to be able to receive investment and bid for public service contracts.

The Office for Civil society have put investors at the heart of the process because as providers of investment they both understand what investment ready ventures look like and have a keen business driven interest in helping social ventures with the greatest chances of success secure this support.
