Mental Health Cuts in Manchester Briefing (26/11/2015)

The following is Macc’s understanding and observations on the current position. It is important to note that this is changing all the time.

Level of Cuts
The Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust is being forced to make cuts of £6.9m in 2015/16. This figure represents 7% of the Trust’s total £103m income. The figure is especially high due to £2m of the 2014/15 round of cuts not being achieved and therefore carried forward into this round.

Impact Readiness Fund

Social investors and commissioners are interested in the social impact ventures achieve, but demonstrating this impact can be difficult. Many social ventures struggle to quantify their achievements without the right systems and expertise.

This fund offers grants and support to social ventures to understand and improve their social impact and demonstrate improvements to investors and commissioners.

Fourteen - Forever Manchester Awards

Fourteen is a programme funded by Spirit of 2012, a charity set up by the Big Lottery Fund to connect events to communities across the country; tackling disadvantage by supporting opportunities in sport, physical activity, culture and the arts, volunteering and social action.

Forever Manchester is managing the Fourteen programme in Manchester, where it will support the communities of Harpurhey and Moston. As part of this work they are delivering a range of activity, which includes FM awards.

YMCA Manchester Volunteer trustee roles

Manchester City Council adopt Older People's Charter

Age-friendly Manchester are very happy to announce that a motion was passed at the meeting of Council on 18 November to adopt the Older People's Charter.

This is a fantastic early milestone for the Charter following the launch on 1st October and marks the beginning of what Age-friendly Manchester intend to achieve across the city.

Google Digital Garage

Manchester City Council are really proud to be able to announce that web giant Google has chosen Manchester's Central Library as the next venue for their 'Google Garage'. This will provide free, in-person digital skills training, from everyday experts, right here in Manchester.

The Digital Garage is the place where anyone can come to give themselves a digital tune-up -- to pick up the skills they need to make the most of the web, and grow their business or career.

Manchester Homelessness Charter

For those working in the homelessness sector, it is evident that Manchester has a growing and complex problem when it comes to people sleeping rough on the streets. In order to address this issue, Manchester City Council, in partnership with the many voluntary groups and organisations working in the city, have been creating new strategies to tackle homelessness and give support to people affected by it.

Manchester Gives More

We’re calling this Manchester Gives More and we’re proud to announce that our first action is that Manchester will be the first city in the UK to launch its own #GivingTuesday campaign.

Can you help Growing in the City to help others on Christmas Day?

Growing in the City are inviting anyone who will be alone or who is unable to cook themselves a meal on Christmas Day to join them for Christmas Dinner. It’s expected to feed about 45 people and Growing in the City are looking for support from businesses and individuals to make this happen.
