Ancoats Dispensary Trust awarded £170,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund

Ancoats Dispensary Trust are pleased to announce that they have been awarded £170,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) under the Heritage and Enterprise Scheme and are now able to begin developing its plans to restore and transform the building into a community hub for Ancoats and surrounding neighbourhoods. This earmarked funding from HLF means that Ancoats Dispensary Trust and their partner Igloo Regeneration can now undertake immediate stabilisation works to the fragile building.

Come and be creative at The Edge in Chorlton

The Edge in Chorlton starts a new term in September, with courses to help anyone and everyone build self-confidence and emotional well-being, as well as learn new skills and have fun. The courses are run by the artistic team at The Edge, as well as by hand-picked, young creative professionals.

Ukulele Club is run by Musical Director, Simon Waters, with two courses to suit all abilities. New To Uke is designed to teach the basics of this easy-to-play instrument. Ukulele Orchestra gives people the chance to learn, sing and perform to family and friends.

Turn your Big Bill into a Little Bill

Manchester City Council is working together with Greater Manchester Energy Advice to assist households improve the energy efficiency of their homes towards getting a ‘Little Bill’.

Little Bill Communities
If you live in Levenshulme, Higher Blackley, Northenden or Whalley Range, you could be eligible for up £7,000 towards the cost of installing energy efficient home improvements such as solid wall insulation or other eligible measures. Households can also register their interest in becoming a showhome and receive additional funding.

Manchester is buzzing with free wi-fi in the city centre

Manchester’s free Wi-Fi network, ’freebee’, provides 30 minutes’ free internet access in key city-centre locations. You can browse the internet, access services, use social networks and search for local businesses and destinations while on the move – and it’s free.

Access ‘freebee’ on _FreebeeMcr Wi-Fi. After the initial free 30 minutes, you can either disconnect or opt to pay £3 for unlimited access over the next 24 hours.

It might take a while – things like our State of the Sector and Civil Economy work were on my wishlist for years before we were finally able to publish the finished work. But sometimes you can be taken by surprise at how fast you can go from the idea to it actually happening.

The Pride of Gorton Awards

Greater Manchester Police have worked with the local community to significantly disrupt criminal activity in Gorton, resulting in numerous cash seizures under the Proceed of Crime Act. Some of the money taken from criminals has been used for The Pride of Gorton Awards, so that local residents and community groups can be recognised for the huge difference they make to their local area.

Centre for Social Action Innovation Fund: Digital Social Action

The Centre for Social Action Innovation Fund is a £14m fund run by Nesta, the UK's Innovation Foundation, working in partnership with the Cabinet Office.

They will provide financial and non-financial support to help grow the impact and reach of innovations that mobilise people's energy and talents to help each other, working alongside public services.

The Fund is currently looking for innovative organisations and programmes that use social action use digital technology to get people involved in social action.

100 people offered free cooking lessons in East Manchester

On Sunday 6 July, 100 people from East Manchester will have a chance to learn how to cook up a great meal. The Community Cooking Roadshow “cooking pods” will be at New Smithfield Market in Openshaw from 11am - 2pm, and will teach local people how to cook three different delicious meals. As well as the FREE cooking lesson and FREE meal, all participants will receive recipes, ingredients, and store cupboard spices to take away, to inspire them to recreate the meal at home.
